Late 19th Century Lavar Rug Depicting Bahram Gur

An incredibly important late 19th century Persian Pictorial Lavar Kirman rug depicting the 5th century Sassanian King, Bahram Gur, mounted on horseback and hunting a deer with bow and arrow, surrounded by several attendants. The rendering is amazing, with special attention to detail including shadowing, fabric folds, and foliage in the landscape. The border is wonderful with a large-scale repeated floral and vine pattern with an overlying geometric “meandering” motif, flanked by two contrasting petite floral and leave patterns.
