An early 20th Century Central Asian Samarghand rug woven of exceptional quality wool that shimmers in the light, and brings out the rich gold, violet, rust, green, and black colors in the dark. The field is arrange into multiple large-scale alternating colored diamonds, one with a floral pattern, and the other with a geometric lattice pattern. The border is wonderful, with stylized Chinese vessels containing Buddha’s Fingers (citron), and Lotus flowers. Due to the high quality of wool, this was a costly rug when first produced, and was probably commissioned by a wealthy Chinese nobleman.
