An unusual late 20th Century central Asian Samarkand rug woven with multiple shades of indigo beginning with a large light-blue central medallion with a stylized pomegranate motif, on a larger dark-blue field with multiple floral and geometric motifs, surrounded by several complementary scrolling vine and pomegranate borders. What makes this rug so unusual is its square form. Most Central Asian rugs are long and narrow.
