Rare Mid-20th Century Samarghand Prayer Rug

A rare and amazing mid-20th Century Central Asian Samarghand pictorial prayer rug with two distinct scenes. The top shows the exterior of a mosque beautifully rendered in soft orange, purple, gold, and cream colored wool. The bottom scene depicts the interior of a mosque featuring an architectural design depicting two columns supporting an arch with arabesque designs. A potted planter hangs from the ceiling. The border is wonderful, wide, with a large-scale scrolling leaf and vine motifs, with a crescent moon and star in each of the upper corners.
