This early 20th-century Persian Heriz rug is a powerful example of the bold, geometric style for which the region is celebrated. Woven in the rugged mountains of northwest Iran, near Tabriz, Heriz rugs are crafted by village weavers known for their strong sense of design and durability. This piece features three large central medallions, each filled with highly stylized floral motifs that echo through the surrounding field, where angular blossoms and branching forms create a vibrant, rhythmic pattern. The border is equally striking: a wide central band with scrolling vines and oversized floral forms, flanked by pairs of slender guard stripes with crisp geometric detailing. The palette—woven from hand-dyed wool—is rich and expressive, with crimsons, deep and light indigos, soft pinks, creamy whites, and golden tones lending the rug both warmth and structure. Graphic, grounded, and full of movement, this Heriz rug brings bold character to any space.
