This exceptional and rare early 20th-century Persian Kazak rug is a bold, graphic statement piece with undeniable presence. Woven by tribal artisans in the northwest Persian-Caucasus borderlands—regions historically inhabited by Armenian and Azerbaijani weavers—Kazak rugs are known for their powerful geometry, saturated natural dyes, and deeply symbolic motifs. This particular example is a rare variant, with four striking serrated medallions resembling abstract birds or rams, rendered in celadon green against a fiery red ground. Each medallion is flanked by ivory floral rosettes and stylized swirling “S” motifs, all arranged in a perfectly rhythmic composition. The deep indigo and cobalt blue add dimensional contrast, while the ivory border is masterfully filled with classic Caucasian meander patterns and diamonds. A collector’s piece with rare design elements, this rug embodies both the raw energy and timeless artistry of tribal weaving.
