A late 20th-century Persian Bidjar rug, handwoven with extraordinary density and precision, featuring a central diamond medallion filled with stylized floral motifs. The surrounding field is alive with similarly abstracted blossoms, rendered in shades of coral, green, indigo, and violet, all set against a glowing coral ground. The composition is framed by a scrolling vine and floral border, equally rich in color and detail, with a layered structure that adds to the sense of visual weight and permanence.
Bidjar rugs are woven in the Kurdish town of Bijar and surrounding villages in northwestern Iran, known for producing some of the most durable and tightly knotted rugs in the world. Often referred to as “the iron rugs of Persia,” they are typically woven by Kurdish women using a wet-packing technique that compacts the wool to an exceptional density. The result is a rug with remarkable clarity of design, saturated color, and a structure built to last generations.
